Leather Furniture: Is It the Best Option for People with Pets?

leather furniture best option for pets

Pets aren’t just animals we enjoy being around – they’re an important part of the family.

It’s no wonder, then, why so many people invite their furry friends to spend time with them in every part of the house, from the living room to the bedroom.

As much as we love our pets, though, they can wreak havoc on our furniture, which causes a dilemma when it comes to purchasing furniture.

What type of material is best for a home with pets? What fabric will withstand the daily use of not only the human members of our families, but also the pet members?

Today, we’re going to make a case for leather furniture.

Pets vs. Household Furniture: The Most Common Issues Pet Owners Face

Why do pet owners need to be diligent when it comes to choosing the right furniture? It’s because, as much as we love them, pets can cause a plethora of problems, especially if they’re bored

Here are some common furniture issues caused by these furry members of our family.

  • They can get it dirty so quickly
  • They can put scratches in the furniture
  • They can tear the fabric
  • They can bite or chew on all types of furniture

Even the best-behaved pets can easily damage furniture. Therefore, it’s important for pet owners to find beautiful sofas, sectionals, and recliners which will not only fit their décor, but will also survive their pets.

Why Leather Is the Best Furniture Option for Pets and Their Owners

Whenever we recommend leather furniture to pet owners, the initial reaction is disbelief. Even after we explain the benefits of this type of furniture covering, there’s still a bit of skepticism. Let us explain why leather furniture is ideal for households with pets.

Leather is one of the toughest materials which can be used on a piece of furniture. While it’s not 100% resistant to scratches and tears, it tends to beat out the competition exponentially. This material can get beat up and still come out looking great.

Leather is also easy to clean, which can’t be said about a lot of furniture fabric on the market. If a pet has an accident (hello, puppy training!), it’s not such a big of a deal. It’s not going to ruin the couch or sofa. Another perk: Leather won’t smell after an accident. The same cannot be said of certain types of cloth.

Finally, if a pet does damage a piece of leather furniture, it’s fairly easy to fix. Let’s say a cat goes crazy and scratches up the couch. A leather tech can restore it back to new.

It’s also important to remember leather ages really well. As time passes, a leather sofa or chair will continue to look good. The same can’t be said for many other fabrics.

After years of use from everyone in the family – and possibly, a little abuse from our furry friends – fabric will wear out. Pet owners will need to replace these pieces (or cover them with a slip cover). Leather furniture will last longer, saving pet owners some money in the long run.

Live Happily Ever After with Pet-Friendly Leather Sofas and Chairs

One of the best things is snuggling on the couch with our fur babies. It’s a comforting experience, both for us and for them.

Yet, furniture damage can be really frustrating, and it’s not uncommon to experience this with pets in the home.

With a quality leather sofa and/or recliners, pet owners can rest assured their furniture will stand up against the wear and tear from every member of the family, including our beloved pets.
