Like particle board bonded leather will break apart with very little use, usually within just a few years and the surface is made of a plastic coating to hold the fibers in place this also breaks down with just normal household use rather quickly. The split is the 2nd cut below the top grain. This leather is mostly used for shoe soles, belts or other applications that require a ridged hard feel. Vinyl is plastic and cracks and also fades quick and the result is terrible. Top grain cowhide stays room temperature and remains soft and supple for years as it breaths in moisture.
